The Adventure Time Mini-Series: "Stakes," is an 8-part miniseries from the American animated television series Adventure Time created by Pendleton Ward and produced by Frederator Studios. The miniseries is based on the show Adventure Time. In this multi-part series, Finn and Jake face a new threat to Ooo after Bonnibel's science project unleashes ghosts from Marceline's past. The mini-series began airing on Monday, November 16, 2015 and concluded Thursday, November 19 at 8 pm (ET, PT) on Cartoon Network. The miniseries was rebroadcasted in its entirety on Friday, November 20, from 7 to 9 pm (ET, PT).

Marceline the Vampire Queen wishes to be an undead, red-sucker no more, but can Princess Bubblegum concoct a cure? At the same time, five of Marceline’s most fearsome foes return from her past. What might her most powerful nemesis, the Vampire King, have in store? Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum and their friends join the Vampire Queen’s fight against her immortal enemies. But for Marceline, the stakes have never been higher throughout these eight special episodes of Adventure Time!

Unlike the original series, this mini-series consists of 8 different episodes. These first aired November 16-19, 2015. The episodes are, in order:

  • The graphic novel "Adventure Time: 2015 Spoooktacular" and the book "Marcy's Super Secret Scrapbook" are related to the events of the Stakes miniseries.
  • In the intro, Peppermint Butler's suit is black instead of midnight blue.
  • This special marks the first time that Adventure Time is shown in a mini-series format. In addition two mini-series aired during season 8 titled Adventure Time Mini-Series: "Islands" and Adventure Time Mini-Series: "Elements".
  • The miniseries has been confirmed to be canon by Jack Pendarvis.[2]
  • Along with the regular Adventure Time crew, several guest artists worked on the mini-series.
  • On Olivia Olson's Instagram, she revealed that the mini-series would air as a part of season 7 during October around Halloween. [3]
    • She also revealed that former storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar briefly returned to help compose a song for the mini-series.
    • The actual air date turned out to be from the 16th to the 19th of November.
  • The mini-series also had a new intro with Olivia Olson singing instead of Pendleton Ward.
    • Masaaki Yuasa's animation studio, Science SARU, animated the new intro for the mini-series.[4]
    • All episodes have been leaked online before the exact air date.
  • The special has several connections to tarot cards. Members of the vampire court, The Fool, The Empress, The Heirophant and The Moon, all have titles which match the names of cards from the Major Arcana and each has some form of their personality that matches the meaning of their respective cards. Furthermore, the Vampire King refers to The Wheel of Fortune and The Chariot, both of which are also trump cards in the Tarot, and he himself is based on the Wheel of Fortune card, which depicts the creatures that make up his design - a man, a lion, an eagle, a snake - and he has a cow as a companion, the last creature shown on the Wheel of Fortune card.
  • The Stakes miniseries shows some similarities to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, such as the usage of tarot cards. In Stakes the enemies are named after tarot cards, however in JJBA those are the names of Stands. Another similarity is the return of enemies from the past (which are in both cases vampires), those being Vampire King for Adventure Time and Dio Brando for JJBA.
