Planning ahead
Edit
We seem to be cutting it close with our monthly FAs, I would suggest we plan ahead and have our FAs nominated one month in advance instead of our current five minutes behind. Thoughts?

- It just depends on there being anyone interested enough to keep this going every month. A while back Waddle was involved in running this. More recently, I think Chubzhac was interested. If you want to take over in terms of administration and formatting, then feel free to. If either of those other guys are interested in helping, you could work with them. --Cornprone 22:39, March 28, 2012 (UTC)
Planning behind
Edit
Well the above was a terrible idea, I think I am gonna go back to having it be each month decides the directly next month, to do this, the Earl will get Featured for an extra week for up until the eighth of June, Snail will be Featured from June eighth until July twentieth, whoever wins this will be Featured from July twentieth until August 31st, and then from there on it will be normal... <.<; ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 13:50, May 9, 2012 (UTC)

- No, I just set it forward an extra month to be sure we are never behind again as in the past we've missed a couple months before and I just now took over so as it says on the overall comments in the archives that the Earl of Lemongrab is next month's while the Flame Princess is this month's.

- I blame my newbness on the matter. It appears to work better if the voting is for the next month. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 19:10, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
Planning this
Edit
I've realized that I have been inexcusably inactive these past months, and have neglected my job in watching over the Featured Articles and Images for months. I will gladly nominate any dedicated and trustworthy user who will take care of the Featured pages monthly, or however long the time limit is set. Just don't slack off like I did. XP

- I'm not sure if having a specific person watching over the FA or FI is really necessary. I know that feli gets emails whenever an edit is made, so he basically watches everything. Also, I get emails whenever a page I'm following is edited, and I'm following hundreds of them, including the FA. Still, if it is deemed to be necessary, a specific user can be entrusted with remaining vigilant for the FA. SaberSworn 18:31, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
- I've really taken over the featureds, do you want it back? ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 19:03, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
- Oh okay, I just thought a specific person might be needed in case of some argument or tie that arises, but whatever works is fine. And @feli, thanks, but I just don't see myself being in charge of the Featureds anytime soon, as I'll likely be inactive. I'll still watch over them occasionally, though.

Kind of a weird system
Edit
Why do these featured votes allow for "oppose" votes? It seems like it would be much tidier and easier to tally if it was left to "support" only. It also makes it somewhat bias, since anyone who votes for an entry, but doesn't feel like it's necessary to oppose any of them is wasting 3/4ths of their voting power. It'd be less to think about for everyone involved and a bit more fair if it was positive voting only. Lailoken (Talk) 10:57, September 3, 2012 (UTC)
- If someone nominates something that someone doesn't feel should be featured, they should be able to say so as well as explain why they say so. As for those who don't oppose, that is their right to not oppose. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 15:05, September 4, 2012 (UTC)
- Part of my issue is based on the assumption that "oppose" votes count as a negative when tallied (e.g. if something gets 3 support and 2 oppose that equals 1 vote total). If that assumption is wrong, then I retract my statements. I don't have a problem with people voicing their opinion, but I do see a problem with negative votes. And, yes, people have the right not to oppose, but every time someone doesn't use all 3 oppose votes then it tips the scales. It basically rewards certain personality types with 3 extra votes. The opinion of people who don't oppose is only worth 1/4th of the opinion of those that do. Lailoken (Talk) 22:17, September 4, 2012 (UTC)
- Hmmm, well I am one of those people who don't vote oppose, there are times I don't even use all of my support votes. ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 13:35, September 6, 2012 (UTC)
- I am one of those people too, but it's not about individuals, it's about all the votes combined. I thought maybe it's hard to see what I'm talking about without examples, so I pulled the results of the August vote from the archives and looked at the numbers. There were 33 voters and 49 total votes. Of the 33 voters, 23 voted once and 10 voted multiple times. The 10 multiple-voters had 53% of the voting power for the final results and the 23 single-voters had 47%. This seems unfair to me. Granted, everyone could just vote 5 times to ensure they have maximum voting power, but that makes this system even more unnecessary. Also, I'd like to point out that if everyone used all of their votes every time, then the winner of each month would be which ever had the lowest negative number.

- I know I'm typing a lot about this, but I don't want to give the impression that I'm on a crusade. I realize that the point of the votes is just a featured article/whatever, so it's not that important which one wins. It was just bugging me, because, as I said, it's kind of a weird system. So, I'm just going to leave my opinion here and you guys can do what you will with it. Lailoken (Talk) 23:17, September 6, 2012 (UTC)
- You have the option to vote, everyone (except anons) have the option to vote, not everyone does vote. I don't recall ever seeing Cornprone vote, does this mean I should do away with voting entirely since it is "somewhat biased" by counting what everyone else wants and not what he wants? ƒelinoel ~ (Talk) 14:42, September 7, 2012 (UTC)
