The bird inside out first appeared in the Adventure Time episode "Freak City." The Magic Man whistled, which made a bird fly onto his hand. He then rubbed his thumb and forefinger together and made a flicking maneuver with his other hand, and the bird's feathers and skin turned inside out, causing its intestines to appear on the outside. Thus, it became Intestine Bird. It has trouble flying, as it has no feathers. The Intestine Bird greatly disturbed Jake, and he had to think of happy thoughts to forget about Intestine Bird. It's unknown if the Intestine Bird is still alive or not, due to the condition it was left in.

It was originally blue; when the Magic Man performed his magic trick, the bird became pink with protruding veins and visible innards, thus turning it into an bird that is inside out.
