2021 Music Hole Award Nomination
SilverMusic This article was nominated in the 2021 Music Hole Awards. It was nominated for the following categories: Best Season 9+10 Song, and Best Song. However, it didn't win for either

The "Adventure Time Ending Theme" is a portion of the song "Christmas Island" or "Island Song" by Ashley Eriksson with slightly altered lyrics. A version of the song also appears on the LP Let's Build A Roof by LAKE, a WA-based band, of which Eriksson is a member. The end credits sequence does not include the main characters, but instead shows a bee, a Worm, a ladybug, and two butterflies on a grassy field. The full credits are not usually seen on Cartoon Network airings, but appear on full online episodes and On Demand.

The song is confirmed in the series finale, "Come Along With Me", to be sung by the Music Hole.

Lyrics[]

Come along with me
And the butterflies and bees
We can wander through the forest
And do so as we please.
Come along with me
To a cliff under a tree

The TRUE Adventure Time Island Song w "and the butterflies and bees"

The lyrics heard in the full online and "On Demand" versions abruptly end here, due to Cartoon Network trying to maximize ad time. However, the full version of the Adventure Time version of this song appears on the main menu for both discs of the Adventure Time: The Complete First Season DVD box set, the Adventure Time: The Complete Third Season DVD box set, and the Jake vs. Me-Mow DVD. The song is also heard in full during the ending montage of the finale, "Come Along With Me". Its lyrics begin as above but continue as follows:

Where we can gaze upon the water
As an everlasting dream.
All of my collections
I'll share them all with you
Maybe by next summer
We won't have changed our tune.
We'll still want to be
With the butterflies and bees
Making up new numbers
And living so merrily.
All of my collections
I'll share them all with you
I'll be here for you always
And always be with you.
Come along with me
And the butterflies and bees
We can wander through the forest
And do so as we please.
Living so merrily.

Lyric Video of Adventure Time

Come along with me
To a town beside the sea
We can wander through the forest
And do so as we please.
Come along with me
To a cliff under a tree.
Where we'll gaze upon the water
As an everlasting dream
All of my affections
I'll give them all to you
Maybe by next summer
We won't have changed our tune
'Cause we'll want to be
In this town beside the sea
Making up new numbers
And living so merrily
All of my affections
Give them all to you
I'll be here for you always
And always be for you
Come along with me
To a town beside the sea
We can wander through the forest
And do so as we please
Living so merrily

Trivia[]

  • The song is featured in the promos for Season 4.
  • In Russia, this song was left undubbed in seasons 1, 2 & 3, 5 & onwards, but in Season 4, the song is dubbed. In Brazil, the song was only dubbed in "Come Along With Me".
  • The locations mentioned in the song are visited in "Breezy."
  • In the episodes "Shh!" and "The Suitor," the song "Braco Don't Go" is heard instead of the regular song.
  • In the episodes "Jermaine" and "Chips and Ice Cream," the song "Booboo Sousa" which played in the former was heard instead of the regular song.
  • In the episode "James Baxter the Horse", The background is a white background with a Drawing of James Baxter doing some animations.
  • The series finale is named after the first lyrics of this song.
  • Huntress Wizard's House, and the character herself, may to some extent be a reference to this song; Huntress Wizard is a character whose typical behavior involves her wandering through the woods, doing as she pleases.  Moreover, the location of her house is literally a cliff under a tree, with a river flowing through which becomes a waterfall; i.e. a cliff under a tree where one can gaze upon the water, as in the song lyrics.  This may all simply be a coincidence, however.
