An image policing unit
this wiki
Forum page
I would wish to commision an image policing unit, one that clears out the unused, unuseful images as well as categorizing the useful ones into categories like Category:Finn_Pictures and the like so when someone needs an image of someone they can just scroll through the category. They would also fix names of the images from random characters to something informative, 57894279sdf08629898_2468sf79129sdf.png would become Finn_with_gold_sword.png (while also renaming all the article that uses the original file name).
I imagine this would also be over videos too but the images should all be fixed first.
I notice some people upload images just for funny reactions to posts in blogs and for no other reason, in these cases messaging the uploader to see if they plan to continue using that image or if it was just for that one time post would probably be the best route. Also, give it one or two weeks before deleting upon no response and give the notification that this would happen.
Thoughts?

Edit
- Maybe a better name would be File Flic Force... or something better for Flic...

Lol, believe me this wiki needs an image policy. Last year I spent some time marking unused images for deletion, and sorting others into categories
- Category:Images related to AT (fanmade)
- Category:Images unrelated to AT
- Category:Images unrelated to AT (userboxes)
There are just tons and tons of images that are just not needed, not used, and unrelated to the subject. People are treating this wiki like a gallery and image hosting service instead of a wiki. I can understand using images on your user page, but most of the images are uploaded just for the heck of it. On March 15 I uploaded an image for personal use for the first time. I may simply upload it to tinypic later, however, another reason is that I did upload it for others to use.
Anyway. The long number and random letter file names are bothersome for me, even if I don't intend to use the images, I do like to see organization. My next project on this wiki was to sort all the official and episode images into categories based on what the admins wanted. Instead of creating a category for each episode, the admin suggested a category based on the season. And then separate that by primary characters. -- Bunai82 (talk) 14:51, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Yes I know, I deleted all those images you marked for deletion, that was horrible... >.>
- I forgot how to use a direct link to an image to post it in a wikia without uploading it, which was why I uploaded the two images in my signature (which is terrible for when I go to other wikias...)
- If possible I would want members of the FFF to be able to delete images, which would be a lot better than what you did before of marking them for deletion, because that cuts the work in half, but of course there will be rules for just what can be allowed for deletion like the one I mentioned above.
- Categorizing the images by episode would be interesting... though episode galleries should be fine enough for that, right? I think we should go further and categorize them by not just primary characters but also secondary characters and maybe even more, though this would have to not include tertiary and further characters of which we currently don't have sorted... Which admin was this by the way?

- I don't know FFF ^_^; is that wikia staff? By request, a bot can delete the current images marked for deletion.
- Nah that is the future name of this image policing unit, I mention it above. File Flic Force, though flic may be changed...
- idk, some images may be marked for deletion by someone who shouldn't have done that, I think it would be better for them to have this ability...
- Ah I see, I will link him here then.

- Yeah, I support with most of what you guys are talking about here. I haven't gotten to deleting the hundreds of images that are marked for deletion simply because they aren't hurting anything, so removing them is low priority. But if you want to get rid of them, then go ahead. As far as I know, only admins can delete images. If there is a bot that can do it, I'd like to hear about it. A presume such a bot would be run by Wikia staff. Regarding categories, I'd support more image categories if they were well-thought out before implementing. Changing or removing categories is tedious, so it's best to figure out a system before starting. --Cornprone 01:30, March 28, 2012 (UTC)

- Request a bot to remove everything marked with a delete tag.
- The reason why I've halted a bit on my image sorting is because more and more keeps getting uploaded with no thought to what to do with them. And the lack of descriptiveness for screen caps, production art, official art etc, is just too distracting for me to start sorting. It may take a long time to rename things, but it can be done, I did it on my own wiki within the month.
- If you rename important files, I am sure the helpers of this wiki would gladly edit the galleries. But if you keep waiting around it will never be organzed. You already have to deal with people overwriting previous files because the name is something like "PB" or "Finnnn".
- On the pages for the file they list everywhere that file is used, the FFF would be in charge of not only renaming but also going to each of those instances and rename the images there too.
- So renaming File:402377 10150647861303383 321031023382 11086593 360068076 n.jpg to File:Flambo04 would have to have the FFF member also rename the files on Flambo, Incendium, Fire Elemental, and the user pages of me, Random Princess, and FinnTehHumin33. So the FFF members would be allowed to edit User Pages only to update file names.
