From what i know about PB's history, is that the mushroom nuke got dropped by a candy factory, and mutated the candy into candy zombies, those were the zombies you seen in the episode Simon and Marcy, PB was the bubble gum like structure attatched to a bridge. I think the reason that PB and Marcaline have a complicated relationship is because they both remember the chicken soup that PB gave to Marceline, so they sort of remember each other.
