This is definitely the most used navigational template. Since new episodes come out every week, it adds a bunch of new characters, and it's tough to update this. Waddle D33 21:08, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

I was just thinking there might be a better way to classify the characters here. Also, do we really want to have the template include every single character, no matter how minor? Its not even complete now, and by season 2 it's probably going to get awkwardly large. --Cornprone 12:43, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

So we were discussing on my talk page ways to revamp this nav template. OK, so the problem is that the template is slowly becoming too cluttered and hard to read, right? My thought is, maybe really minor characters (for example Skeleton Baby or Video Game Girl) could be dropped from this template. The Minor character navbox should still remain on every character's page so people can navigate from there, but the navbox just wouldn't list every character. If people want a list of every single character, they can just look at Category:Characters anyway. Now as to which characters would be dropped from the nav, that would have to be a judgment call. The criteria I'd suggest would be if the character A.) Only appeared once and B.) Their appearance was very short and C.) They did not play an important role in the episode's plot, then they should be considered too minor to be included on the template. --Cornprone 00:56, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

I don't mind trimming it down, but the characters we drop should still be linked to somehow because we'd end up with a bunch of orphan pages. Maybe we could include a link to the character category in the template so at least they could navigated to easily. --Moocowisi 01:58, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with most of your selections, especially the ones in bold. I'd maybe keep some of the other ones like Science Cat & Shark, Dolphin, Stanley, and Brain Beast, because they were the stars of at least one substantial scene and they had an interesting interaction with Finn and Jake. --Cornprone 00:29, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that's pretty good. I feel bad leaving guys out, though, so we should probably make sure the characters we take out are linked to on their episode page under a miscellaneous heading or something like that. I think yes, they should. The only reason we're trimming characters out of this template is so that the template doesn't get too big. But we might as well keep it on minor character pages to do what it's meat to do: help people browse through other characters. --Cornprone 23:13, January 24, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, if you look at earlier parts of this talk page, we already discussed characters that are too minor and therefore should be left off. I think those should still be left off. It's a judgment call, but if a character did not play an important role in an episode, I'd say omit them from this template. --Cornprone 06:20, February 9, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I know. I just thought I would add all the characters first, then remove the ones that are too minor. I think we can add more than usual in each season, since they are spaced out and easier to read. OK, basically the criteria I'm using is if a character didn't really play a role in the episode's story and their appearance was very brief. There aren't too many season 1 characters still on the template that I'd remove, but I'll take a look. --Cornprone 22:52, February 16, 2012 (UTC)
