"The First Investigation" is the eighth episode in the ninth season of Adventure Time. It is the two hundred seventy-fourth episode overall.[4]

Finn and Jake are tasked with investigating reports of a haunting at Joshua and Margaret's old office. [5]

Kim Kil Whan tasks Jake and Finn to investigate reports of a haunting in one of Kim Kil Whan's properties "Joshua and Margaret Investigations" since something in there traumatized his top employee Renny Hamlond and does not pay any rent for inhabiting the place. Jake and Finn suspect their parents ghosts to haunt old office/home. Given one hour to find out what the inhabitor is and to get it out, Finn and Jake prepare for a possible meeting with their parent's ghosts. As soon as they arrive at the shabby old office, they walk in and start looking around. Doing so they talk about their old home and some memories which seem to be remembered slightly differently from both. Then they start hearing a ticking sound when the strange phenomenons start. They walk around and suddenly the living room is tidy and the furniture is arranged nicely. An old tape of their parents falls out from the shelf on its own. It seems to be the introduction tape of Joshua and Margaret Investigations.
